about

This track was written during a transition period of my life. I had just gotten divorced and I was learning to play guitar. My cousin had just quit college and moved across the country to pursue his dreams. My first career working for non-profits on farms as a sustainable agriculture educator had run its course after five years and I was looking at a turbid future. I was reaching out to God for guidance as evidenced by the song that inspired Second Shot which I would play to sooth my soul. The lyrics to that song were simple: Take em away, take em away Lord, take away these chains from me. My heart is broken cause my spirit's not free. Lord take away these chains from me. I put my hope and my joy into this song and friends seemed to be able to hear that as it has been well received by others.

lyrics

Chorus:
When you're just getting going, you've got to let go
When you're just getting started, better take it slow
Cause we all want, what we don't got
Don't you be a worrying mama
There's always a second shot

Where did Elijah go
He'll return one day I know
I want to be that light
One deep breath and hold on tight
Ascended to God knows where
Without a word or a prayer
Leaving things unrefused
Leaving things unprepared
Glad we all have that choice
The freedom of just one voice
Unprepared is relative to me
Prepare for the unknown
It will set you free

Chorus

Now its time to take that leap
From the tallest branch you seek
Light as a feather spread your wings
Music will catch you as you sing
Follow the thread and you will find
The treasure's in the now of time
Future's unwritten there's no end
Choose a beginning
When in doubt just pretend

Chorus

Decay Matters is committed to transmuting the rotting shit of life into creative gold through authentic attending to the process, art and pain of being alive. Much like compost, this produces fertile soil for continued growth and delicious fruits, through our shared labor of love, that is the joy of conciousness.

To clarify, I am full of rotting shit and soul composting is infinite permaculture.
